United Tropical Fruit (UTF) has announced a multi-year collaboration with University Institute Technology Mara (UiTM) to develop a organic Musang King durian research and development centre.
The Malaysia-based, full-owned subsidiary of Plantations International, will work with a team of researchers from UiTM Jengka Campus to develop organic Musang King durian saplings for UTF's plantations across the country.
UTF’s managing director Raymond Samy said, the project would help improve the quality of organic Musang King durian for export.
'United Tropical Fruit has been in the forefront of the organic Musang King durian business since its inception, but there is always roomfor improvement,” said Samy.
“With the collaboration agreement with UiTM and the unprecedented access to the great minds of the UiTM research team it offers, UTF will take the word organic Musang King to a new level never seen before in the durian industry in Malaysia, Asia andbreak new ground in the Asia-Pacific region as well as the European markets.”
TheUTF organic Musang King nursery, which will be located on-site at the UiTM campus, in Jengka, Pahang. Saplings will be grown for UTF plantations and licensed out to third parties for domestic sales only. Plantations International will retain full exclusivity to the export market.
