Boosting its online presence in China, Carrefour plans to make all of its offline products available on a new ecommerce platform.
The platform was produced in strategic collaboration with Dada-JD Daojia, an online grocery delivery firm owned by JD.com.
Currently there are 6,000 products available on the platform, with 400 of those being imported items. These span the categories of fruit and vegetables; dairy; ready to eat; beer, wine and spirits; snacks; cooking ingredients; as well as health and beauty
158 of Carrefour’s stores are listed on the platform, with a plan to list 200 by the end of 2018. As of the official announcement date on 17 October, stores connected spanned 31 major cities in China.
JD Daojia has also reportedly set up an independent warehousing facility to enhance efficiency for Carrefour.
IGD reported the move has already dramatically increased online sales for Carrefour which were up 720 per cent versus the previous month according to JD Daojia’s data.
