Andhra Pradesh’s state horticulture mission and the Acharya NG Ranga Agricultural University are planning a new irradiation facility in Hyderabad worth US$3m.

The facility will be set up near the international airport on the edge of the city, according to the Business Standard, and will be a public-private partnership.

“The facility will be a 100 per cent export-oriented unit for processing onions, chillies and mangoes,” said H Arun Kumar, the executive director of Andhra Pradesh’s horticulture mission.

“We are currently drafting a detailed project report and will soon call for expressions of interest. The unit is expected to be fully operational by next year.”
