Indonesia import Washington apples

A pair of new quarantine regulations governing imports have been released by Indonesia’s government, with the first coming into force from today.

Regulation 27, titled ‘Food Safety Surveillance for Entry and Exit of Fresh Food of Plant Origin’, will require all fruit, vegetables and grain imported to the country to have a certificate of analysis covering residues for pesticides, heavy metals and mycotoxins.

Testing can be done either by the exporter prior to shipping or by the importer on arrival. The new regulation will apply to all product exported from 19 August onwards.

The Australian government is negotiating with the Indonesian government to have its own residue testing and food safety systems recognised under the regulation.

Regulation 12 requires all imported wood packaging, including boxes, pallets and straps, to be fumigated against gadfly. All exporters will be required to have a fumigation certificate for any wood packaging from 1 September.
