After launching its first hypermarket in Pakistan in May, Dubai’s Majid Al Futtaim Group plans to open another seven of its Hyperstar-brand hypermarkets in the country within five years.
Majid Al Futtaim (MAF) currently operates 36 Carrefour hypermarket outlets in the Middle East, and the company wants to open its second MAF store in Karachi early next year, reported the Khaleej Times.
“The outlet in Lahore is receiving 15,000-20,000 visitors `per day` on average, making it a success,” Mubashir Jalili, vice president for development at MAF Hypermarkets Pakistan, told the Times.
“Economically the country is doing well, as the consumer base is as large as 170m and expanding.”
MAF plans to open three stores in Lahore, two in Karachi an one in Islamabad, Faislabad and Multan respectively.
The current Lahore outlet covers 8,500m2 and stocks 40,000 product lines.
