Peak industry body Avocados Australia has appointed John Tyas as its new CEO, replacing former chief executive Antony Allen when he steps into the role in early May.
Tyas comes to the job after 11 years with Horticulture Australia Limited (HAL), most recently serving as industry manager for tropical fruits. He has more than 20 years experience in the horticulture industry.
“We are delighted to announce Mr John Tyas as the new CEO of Avocados Australia,” said the organisation’s chairman Jim Kochi.
“John has had a long association with avocados, he knows and understands the industry very well and we are confident in his ability to guide our growing industry.”
Australia’s avocado industry is expecting one of its biggest ever crops this year, part of a trend over the last few years of rising production jockeying with growing domestic and export demand.
“Avocado is a unique product which has a strong position in the market and has enjoyed significant consumption growth, particularly in the last 10 years. It’s a progressive industry with a bright future,” Tyas stated.
