Situated in Ben Tre province, Vietnam, a new fruit depot by wholesaler MM Mega Market and Hong Phu Sa Vegetables and Foods will supply fruits and vegetables to both domestic and export markets.
The depot, which opened on 31 October, will supply fruit for MM’s 19 stores across the country, Vietnam Plus reported.
“This depot will also be an export base for Vietnamese fruit to Thailand, China and other Southeast Asian countries,” said Phidsanu Pongwatana, managing director of MM Mega Market.
“Situated at a prime location, the depot will help MM ensure a smooth flow of vegetables and fruit from Mekong Delta source areas to MM stores as fast and as cost-effectively as possible, while keeping products fresh all the way,” he said.
The facility aims to process around 15 tonnes of fruit per day in its initial phase, next year aiming to increase throughput to 50 tonnes daily.
Both MM and Hong Phu Sa will work with quality control and purchasing agents, and liaise with growers, cooperatives and suppliers, to select products for the facility, which will process over 60 types of fruit.
Items will be sourced from farming households along the Mekong Delta provinces. Growers will be required to maintain a farm logbook, and conduct period quality testing in accordance with MM standards.
