German-headquartered retailer Metro has opened its second cash and carry in Changsha in China’s midwest.
The new store in the Yuelu business centre spans 5,300m2, with an on-site cafe, express delivery and free wifi – all part of Metro China’s ‘new generation’ of stores.
“With a booming tourism industry and transformation to a new industrial structure, Changsha has seen a steady growth of economy in recent years,” Jeroen de Groot, Metro China president said in a company statement. “We see great potential in the local market, and are confident about expanding our business here by opening the second store in the city.”
Metro opened its first store in the Hunan province in 2001 with a wholesale store in the province’s capital Changsha.
