Maersk Line has opened a container depot in Australia’s bayside suburb of Altona, with another to open in Dandenong South in coming months.
The state-of-the-art 5ha facility is housed at the Nexus Industrial Estate, with a 20,000L container wash bay facility; a 2,500m2 repair workshop; and resources to perform pre-trip inspections on up to 180 TEU refrigerated containers.
“We have been able to configure the layout of the depot ensuring we optimise the space available, which in turn allows us to cater for future volume growth in the area,” Anthony Randell, operations and customer service manager of Maersk Australia said in a company statement. “We believe that we now have the most sophisticated and technologically advanced container depot set up in Australia.”
Salta Properties has developed two Nexus International Intermodal Terminals in Melbourne – a 40ha site in Altona and another 180ha site in Dandenong South.
Salta Properties executive chairman Sam Tarascio Sr said Maersk Line's new facilities have set a benchmark for container parks, adding that Maersk Line's relocation from Yarraville to Altona will help ease traffic congestion.
