New Zealand Korea flags good

Prime minister John Key wants to resume Free Trade Agreement (FTA) talks with South Korea to ensure New Zealand exports remain competitive.

An FTA looked to be on the cards several years ago before Korea refocused its energies on establishing trade accords with the US and Europe.

Key is concerned major New Zealand exporters, such as kiwifruit marketer Zespri, will struggle to compete with countries paying lower tariffs.

'This is our fifth largest market,' Key told New Zealand’s 3 News. 'Quite frankly, if we don't get an FTA our big companies are going to be priced out of this market because they're facing competition from other countries where they're not paying a tariff now because of their FTA.'
