Delays and additional costs have been lifted from Tasmanian exporters to Korea. The Asian nation declared it would acknowledge Tasmania’s pest-free status following an outbreak of fruit fly which was detected and managed throughout most of 2018.
“This means Tasmanian farmers can now export fruit to Korea, a valuable export market worth $12.9 million to Australia in 2017-18, without delays or additional costs,” said Australian minister for agriculture, David Littleproud.
“We are working closely with other importing countries to re-open the trade and working with our state colleagues to provide additional information as it is requested,” he said.
Expanding export options for all Australian growers, Littleproud has said he is working on opening market access to European countries. The minister hopes to progress with deals during the upcoming G20 summit held in Osaka in late June.
