Kiwifruit growers in New Zealand have called for inquiries into both the country's biosecurity standards and industry body Zespri as they continue to fight an ongoing battle against the deadly Psa disease.

Hundreds of kiwifruit growers gathered at a meeting in Te Puke this week to discuss the responsibility for the outbreak, which has claimed over 30 per cent of all kiwifruit orchards, TVNZ reported.

At the meeting, growers reportedly voted to ask the government to declare the outbreak of the virus to be an 'adverse event', and called for an extensive inquiry into the outbreak and biosecurity standards.

Meanwhile, one grower told TVNZ that he wanted an inquiry into Zespri, although company director Ray Sharp played this down, saying it was natural for such a large industry to have some members feeling disappointed.
