Timely rain in Kashmir is expected to aid strawberry production this year, and growers are gearing up for a good harvest.
Strawberry grower Altaf Ahmad told DNA India that this season farmers aimed to increase production by around 25 per cent, and the Kashmir horticulture department is helping them meet these goals.
The department is encouraging farmers to become actively involved in the entire production process, from cultivation through to the packaging and marketing of the fruit.
"It is good if farmers focus on strawberry farming. This is the first fruit which comes after winter here and it is very good for health," said horticulture department planning officer GN Kumar.
Kashmir's climate, with bright sunshine and moderate rainfall, is ideally suited to strawberry cultivation.
