The Indian state of Karnataka has shipped mangoes to the US for the first time, with 1,200 tonnes expected to reach the US this season.
Some 80 tonnes of Karnataka mangoes were airfreighted to the US on 1 July, including Alphonso and Kesar varieties, reports the New Indian Express.
“A team from Washington had visited our mango processing site. After approval, we are sending Alphonso, Kesar and other varieties [to the US],” said Kamalakshi Rajanna. Karnataka State Mango Development Corporation chairperson.
“This year, we have also exported around 5,000 tonnes of mangoes to the Gulf countries, Singapore, London and other European countries.”
