French fruit grower cooperative Fruits Union France has joined forces with French kiwifruit exporter Primland to market its kiwifruit under the Oscar brand from this season.
Fruits Union France’s Vincent Faugler said the group might also market its stonefruit through Primland in future, in a bid to develop French stonefruit markets outside France and the EU.
“The principle is to develop fruit production in France. To do this we need to develop new export markets,” Faugler told Fruitnet.
He said opportunities might exist for French apricots in Singapore (25 days by sea), and Hong Kong (30 days transit).
Primland’s Jean-Baptiste Pinel welcomed the venture, which he said would boost Oscar kiwifruit supplies by 5 per cent this season compared to last, and add another kiwifruit packhouse to Primland’s network.
