Japanese retailers have chosen to close a number of outlets in China as violent protests continue there over a territorial dispute between Asia’s two largest economies.
Aeon and Seven & I Holdings have both made the decision to close stores in China following an escalation of anti-Japan demonstrations.
Aeon said on Tuesday (18 September) is had closed 30 of its 35 stores in China.
Meanwhile, Seven & I is to close 13 of its Yokado supermarkets and 198 7-11 convenience stores, a company spokesperson said.
Chinese have taken to the streets en-mass to protest the Japanese government’s purchase of a disputed island in the South China see from a private Japanese owner.
The Japanese refer to the islands as Senkaku, while the Chinese call them Diaoyu.
