An Indonesian agriculture delegation visited New Zealand last week to study the country’s horticulture sector, in part to gather information for Indonesia’s developing Horticulture Bill, according to the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Thirteen Indonesian members of parliament took part in the visit, which ran 18-22 August, coming from the government’s Commission IV, which deals with agriculture, forestry, marine affairs, fishery and food.
The delegation was led by former politician Siswono Yudo Husodo, and also included Sri Kuntarsih, secretary to the Ministry of Agriculture’s Director General of Horticulture.
New Zealand’s Minister of Agriculture, David Carter, briefly met with the delegation, as did the Select Committee on Primary Production and officials from Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
The delegation also visited vegetable growers Woodhaven Garden in Levin, north of Wellington, to examine the company’s production system and marketing aspects.
