Indonesian president seeks assistance in improving local fruit production
Fruit trade cooperation was a topic of discussion as the Indonesian and Australian heads of state met in Jakarta on 15 May.
In his first international trip since being re-elected at the start of May Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese met with President Prabowo Subianto for a series of bilateral meetings.
As part of a joint press statement following the meetings, Prabowo said the two countries had a strong relationship that paved the way for closer cooperation.
Prabowo pushed for the enhancement of cooperation in trade and investment, as well as Australia’s participation, to strengthen Indonesia’s agriculture, fisheries, and MSME sectors.
“Our family may be far away, but neighbors are always right next to us. Therefore, I intend to maintain the best relationship with our neighbors. We thank Australia under the leadership of His Honourable (Anthony Albanese) for seeing Indonesia as a close friend,” he said.
“We will work together to improve the capacity of our farmers and MSMEs. We will also strive to ensure that Indonesia’s fruit and fisheries products can meet international standards, including Australia’s.”
