A spike in vegetable prices has highlighted the need for India to address supply chain issues andincrease productionif it is to ease inflation rates.
According to a report in the Times of India, figures from the commerce and industry ministry show the annual rate of inflation based on wholesale prices stood at 7.23 per cent for the month of April. This is up from 6.98 per cent in March.
Vegetable prices during April, however, spiked by 60.97 per cent. This was up from 30.75 per cent in March.
This is contributing to a high rate of food inflation that stood at 10.49 per cent in April.
The newspaper said experts on the matter believed the country needed to increase production while addressing its inefficient supply chain.
