Pineapples

Horticultural scientists in the Indian state of Tripura have successfully tested a way to ripen pineapples out of season.

According to a report on MSN.com the discovery could provide a cash boost to growers in the state.

'We used ethyl sodium carbonate chemicals for bearing fruit in winter, which is not its proper season, and we have been successful,' Sujit Saha, a junior scientist of the state’s horticulture department, told the website.

The department conducted successful experiments on 30ha of land at a cost of around US$13,000, he said.
