Citrus growers in India are looking to develop production of a US tangerine variety to counter over-production of kinnow.
According to a report in Express India, the Punjab Agricultural University is researching the viability of growing the Daisy tangerine variety, which is sweeter and has fewer pips than the commonly grown kinnow variety.
It is hoped this variety would provide increased export opportunities.
Officials in the country are warning growers, however, to exercise caution in planting the variety, which they claim needs improving.
Recently Fruitnet reported Pakistani kinnow growers were experiencing one of the worst seasons in living memory.
