The Indian state of Uttar Pradesh is launching a new mango variety this season – Akhilesh aam – named after the region's youngest chief minister Akhilesh Yadav, reports ibnlive.in.com.
Grower-breeder Haji Kaleemullah Khan said he named the sweet, reddish-coloured mango after the state's youthful leader because the fruit grows on very young trees.
'The tree which bears the fruit has just entered its fifth year, and no tree bears fruit at such a tender age,' he told the website.
Kaleemullah is famed locally for grafting more than 300 different varieties of mangoes onto one tree.
He has previously launched varieties named after cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, Bollywood actress Aishwarya, and congress president Sonia Gandhi.
