The Indian state of Haryan exported its first consignment of potatoes to Malaysia this week, reports www.newkerala.com.
Haryan chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda was present to see off the inaugural shipment, and urged growers to adopt the latest production techniques to boost further exports.
He added that the state government had taken a number of steps to further agricultural interests in the region, such as setting up the Centre of Excellence for vegetables in Karnal with collaboration from Israel.
Hooda said that state crop production had almost doubled since 2004/05 thanks to local government efforts, such as irrigation subsidies to farmers.
