NZ New Zealand Royal Gala apples retail India

India may lower tariffs on imported New Zealand produce as part of free trade agreement (FTA) negotiations between the countries, according to India’s Commerce Minister.

Anand Sharma told New Zealand’s TV1 that potential lowered duties would boost New Zealand’s trade to India.

“I’m sure that after we’ve been through the free trade agreement we’ll see more of New Zealand fruit and vegetables coming,” Mr Sharma said.

New Zealand prime minister John Key recently returned from a visit to India to discuss the terms of the FTA, which are still under negotiation.

India is a growing market for a number of New Zealand’s fresh fruit and vegetable exports, apples in particular.

The supplier is running a new promotion in India this year, covering all New Zealand apples under the ‘100% Pure New Zealand Apples’ branding.
