India's Himachal Pradesh 2010 apple season has cost a high price in lives and injuries to those involved in the trade, reports Himvani.com.
A statement by Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal revealed that in Shimla district alone 175 accidents were reported during the July to November apple season, claiming 112 lives and 315 serious injuries.
The toll includes 23 lives lost in a 30-truck apple transport accident, the statement said.
Dangerous driving, mechanical failure and bad roads owing to heavy rain were found to be the main causes of apple-trade-related accidents, the statement added.
