Leading Indian import-export firm IG International has launched a new subsidiary, IG Supply Chain (IGSC), and opened its eighth cold store in Jaipur.
The Jaipur facility has a capacity of 1600 tonnes and includes eight banana ripening chambers. The site will cater for IG International’s expanding fresh fruits business, which includes its export division Sanvi International, launched last year under a joint venture with Sunil Shejwal of well-known grape exporter Atharva International.
IGSC will oversee the expansion of IG International’s cold chain logistics business, including a US$25m investment in new facilities currently being constructed in Delhi, Bangalore and Mumbai. These facilities will provide IG International with an additional 15,000 tonnes of cold storage space, extending the company’s total capacity to more than 40,000 tonnes.
IGSC will also look to expand the IG Internationals third party logistics business by doubling the company’s fleet of refrigerated trucks from 50 to 100.
“With the use of modern and best-in-class technology, IGSC will provide an effective and economically viable cold chain solution that will totally integrate the supply chains, thereby reducing physical waste and loss of value of perishable commodities,” said Sanjay Arora, IG International’s marketing director.
