Turners & Growers has ended a three-month search for a new chief executive, appointing former Delica Global general manager Alastair Hulbert.

In a brief statement, Sir John Anderson, deputy chairman of Turners & Growers (T&G), confirmed Hulbert would fill the role vacated by Geoff Hipkins in March.

Anderson said Hulbert’s extensive experience in the fresh produce industry would bring stability and leadership to the company.

“Alastair has extensive industry experience and talent which will be very valuable in managing New Zealand’s largest vertically-integrated produce marketer,” Anderson explained.

“Alastair has been involved with the produce industry for much of his life, growing up on an asparagus farm through to the growing, packing and marketing of fresh produce both in New Zealand and offshore.

“This unique background enables him to bring a wide range of relevant experience to the chief executive position.”

Hulbert had served as T&G’s joint acting chief executive following Hipkins’ departure.

He has also acted as the company’s general manager of international markets and spent nine years at the helm of Delica Global, T&G’s export subsidiary.
