Citrus growers in the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area are set to benefit from a $160,000 grant from Horticultural Australia to assist in a satellite farm-mapping project.
Riverina Citrus will contribute approximately half of the cost of the project.
All citrus orchards in the area will be mapped to provide growers with accurate block measurements and information, and to assist in building histories of crop rotation and current planting trends, said Riverina Citrus project manager Melanie Garbett.
Once the project is running successfully it will provide accurate statistics on crop size, varieties and irrigation changes.
It will be an important marketing tool for growers, packers, processors and exporters, she said
The mapping will commence later in the year.
