Indian retail giant Future Group is considering the buy-out of supermarket chain Nilgiris, according to Inside Retail Asia.
The acquisition would see Future Group take control of 140 Nilgiris stores in the south of India, helping the company ramp up operations of its own grocery chain KB Fair Price.
Last year, Future Group took control of fellow Indian retailer Big Apple, after a deal with the supermarket’s operator Express Retail for an undisclosed amount.
Future Group is understood to be in negotiations with Nilgiris’ majority owner Actis Capital, although neither a time frame nor price range for the deal has been released.
