Indian retail pioneer Future Group is launching its first own-brand banana label, Go Banana, across its supermarket outlets nationwide today (15 January).
The firm will sell domestically-grown Robusta bananas under the label, provided they meet the brand’s strict quality criteria, which specifies banana thickness, colour, ripeness and appearance among others, reveals the company’s Saikat Sarkar.
Defects are not permitted, and only 5 per cent bruising is tolerated during packing, he said.
Go Banana packs will be sold from all Future Group Big Bazaar, Nilgiris, Easy Day, KBFP and KBCY outlets, he added.
“We are going to constantly inspect each and every cartons of packed fruits prior to shipment to confirm strict adherence of our fresh produce to the acceptable standards,” Sarkar told Fruitnet. “Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) are to be applied at every packing station, collection and distribution centres of ours. Also we are going to regularly monitor growers to follow up the good agricultural practice.”
