Food industry veteran Jim Gallagher has been appointed chief executive officer (CEO) of US fresh produce supplier Fruit Patch.
Gallagher, who worked most recently as general manager of New Star Fresh Food subsidiary, Organicgiri Produce, was scheduled to take up the new position on 30 April.
He will replace outgoing CEO and president Scott Wallace.
Fruit Patch board chairman Wil Garland said Gallagher’s sales experience would serve him well in his new role.
“We wanted someone with significant experience and with specific talents in sales and marketing,” Garland said. “We felt we needed to shore up our sales and marketing.”
The company had to renew its focus on sales following the departure of Sheri Mierau in 2010, said Garland.
There has been a high turnover in top-level management in recent years. Wallace spent less than 18 months as CEO and president and in November Bill Buyers took over from Doug Reader as chief operating officer and chief financial officer.
