Alibaba’s fresh food ‘new retail’ supermarket Freshippo has announced it will relocate its headquarters to Shanghai’s Pudong District and build a new industrial base.
According to a report from sina.com, the new headquarters is expected to cover an area of 10ha and will include a processing and distribution hub for fresh food.
The hub will integrate the latest technology including automation, 5G mobile networks, cloud computing and more and is expected to begin operations in 2022.
In addition to the new headquarters Freshippo, will work with local authorities to build a number of villages that will be dedicated to producing agricultural products to serve Freshippo outlets across China and digitally integrated into the retailer’s supply chain.
Freshippo currently has more than 220 outlets in 23 cities across China and it has said it plans to open another 100 member stores and 100 mini shops thisyear.
