The Port of Antwerp has posted a 2.2 per cent decline in freight volumes.
The facility handled 138.9m tonnes of freight between January and September this year, with container volume sliding 0.6 per cent to 78.7m tonnes, but ro/ro (+18.6 per cent) and dry bulk (+1.7 per cent) continued to grow.
The volume of conventional/breakbulk cargo slipped 15.9 per cent year on year to 8.2m tonnes, with the total volume of fruit handled shrinking 2.9 per cent to 980,000 tonnes.
The overall decline is attributed to the suspension of activities by Belgian Refining Corporation.
