The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) has announced an increase in its Florida orange crop forecast for the 2011/12 season, boosting it by 1m boxes on the May estimate to a total of 146.2m boxes.

According to the USDA, the 2011/12 increase was the result of an adjustment for utilisation in Valencias from 71m to 72m boxes, while early and mid-season varieties remained stable at 74.2m boxes.

For Florida specialty fruit, the USDA predicts 1.15m boxes and 4.3m boxes of tangerines will be produced, numbers that remain unchanged from the previous month.

Finally, the USDA predicted that Florida will harvest 18.8m boxes of grapefruit in 2011/12, showing no change from May's estimate.
