Florida citrus

Florida's citrus industry was spared from any serious damage on Tuesday night as a cold snap gripped much of the US.

According to reports in the country, Fort Lauderdale recorded its lowest temperature on record for 7 December, dropping to 40oF Tuesday morning. The old record was 42oF, set in1841.

'We came through last night in pretty good shape,' Andrew Meadows, aspokesman for Florida Citrus Mutual, told CNN. 'We had some reports of mid-20s scattered across the citrus belt but it wasn't for any duration.'

However, more near record-low temperatures are expected for much of the Florida region over the next 24 hours, CNN reported.
