The Peruvian Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation (Minagri) confirmed on Tuesday that a four-tonne consignment of Hass avocados, originating from the Chao district of the Viru province, has arrived in Thailand.
The shipment, made by the Avocado Packing Company, is the first to reach Thailand since the new phytosanitary protocol came into force on 11 May.
The shipment was certified by Peru’s national plant health service, Senasa, with officials from Thailand’s Agriculture Ministry also present to verify the certification of the farms and packhouses and to inspect the consignment to ensure it was free of pests and diseases.
Senasa said 8,963ha of avocados in 143 production sites in La Libertad had been certified for export. So far this season, 77 tonnes of Hass avocados from La Libertad have been exported to markets including the US, China, Chile, Netherlands, Japan, Spain and the UK.
