Frutas de Chile holds ceremony at Guangzhou’s Jiangnan Wholesale Market to celebrate the arrival
China has welcomed the arrival of the first cherry express shipment of Chilean cherries for the 2024/25 season.
The direct shipment operated by Ocean Network Express (ONE) arrived in China on 8 December carrying 5,000 tonnes of cherries, equivalent to 240 containers.
To mark the occasion and the “official start” of the Chilean cherry shipping season for 2024/25, the Chilean Fruit Exporters Association Frutas de Chile held a ceremony at Guangzhou Jiangnan Fruit and Vegetable Wholesale Market.
Attendees included Frutas de Chile president Ivan Marambio, executive director of the Chilean Cherry Committee Claudia Soler and representatives of Guangzhou Jiangnan Fruit and Vegetable Wholesale Market Management.
The ceremony was attended by more than 1,000 traders, wholesalers and consumers and was broadcast live on Chinese social media platform Douyin for the first time, allowing people from all over China to watch.
“We are particularly excited tonight to celebrate the successful arrival of the first express container of Chilean cherries for the 2024/25 production season in China,” said Marambio at the ceremony.
“This is an important milestone in our cooperation and a symbol of the strengthening of trade ties between Chile and China. Today, an average of more than 82mn people around the world enjoy Chilean fruit every day. This season’s Chilean cherry market event is themed “get hooked on happiness”, which not only conveys the deliciousness of cherries, but also shows the happiness they bring.”
