Ho Chi Minh City-based fruit exporter Rong Do Company is planning to increase the volume of its dragon fruit shipments to the US, due to increased consumer spending there as it continues to climb out of recession, VOV News reported.
Beginning this month, the company will export and extra two additional seafreight containers per week and 10-20 more airfreighted containers per month.
At the moment the firm exports around six containers (around 77 tonnes) of dragon fruit by sea each month, and 10 containers (around 9 tonnes) by air.
As well as increasing their US shipments, Rong Do plans to export the fruit to Japan, and plans to form relationships with farmers in Binh Thuan, Long An, Tien Giang, Tay Ninh and Dong Nai to grow both white and red fleshed dragon fruit to GAP standards.
