Malaysia’s Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA) is planning to establish an extra 100 fruit stalls throughout the country in an effort to boost the sector and increase fresh fruit sales.
The 100 stalls will be in addition to an existing 329 stalls, reported Bernama.
FAMA’s retail division director Che Ghani Che Wan said the stalls would be part of the organisation’s plan to boost Malaysia’s fresh fruit sales to RM210m (US$65.7m), up from 2009’s RM198m (US$62m).
FAMA is also in discussions with Sandakan Municipal Council and the Public Works Department in Sabah to set up an ‘agro bazaar’.
The bazaar would be a semi-permanent fresh fruit centre, and is aimed at stimulating the fresh fruit industry in the East Malaysian city.
