Emirates SkyCargo has expanded its services between Vietnam and the UAE off the back of a fivefold increase in perishable exports from Vietnam to Dubai.
The freight division of Emirates reported close to 110 tonnes of perishable exports from Vietnam to Dubai during January 2017, with a near fivefold increase in exports of fruit including rambutans and lychees in the past year.
From 1 July 2017, Emirates will offer 20 tonnes of cargo per flight on its daily service from Dubai to Hanoi, adding to its 580 tonnes shipped to Vietnam each week.
Emirates SkyCargo is working with Vietnam’s Trade Promotions Agency Vietrade, to develop opportunities for Vietnamese produce exports in the UAE and the Middle East more broadly.
“Emirates SkyCargo started operations in Vietnam in 2008 and has since then played an important role in the growing trade between Vietnam and the UAE,” said Ravishankar Mirle, Emirates VP of cargo commercial, Far East and Australasia. “By working closely with Vietrade and by building upon our expertise in shipping perishables, we developed air freight solutions that have helped increase the exports of premium fruits and vegetables from Vietnam to Dubai.”
“Vietnam has huge comparative advantages in agriculture. That is why we requestedEmirates SkyCargo to position its product offering to facilitate exports of perishable productsby air freight to capitalise on the country’s vast potential,” added Pham Binh Dam, Vietnam’s ambassador to the UAE.
“We are happy to see the sharp increase in volume in the past year and will continue to work with Vietnamese producers and exporters for their greater market penetration.'
