Korean retail giant Shinsegae Group, owner of Korea’s largest discount store chain Emart said it will be integrating all e-commerce operations to SSG.com.

The merger will take place in March and follows the opening of a new fusion concept store, SSG Food Market.

The store, recently opened in Seoul, features an extensive fresh food department with additional features to enhance the consumer shopping experience, according to IGD Asia.

“The SSG project was a transformation of customer’s shopping habits,” says Emart head of strategy Brian Kim. “Through our new store design, refurbished brand identity, well-curated products, and food and beverage mix, we have made SSG a place for everyday shopping as well as social gathering.”

Alongside fresh produce offerings, SSG Food Market includes a fishmonger, butcher, Korean deli, sushi eatery, café, florist, 200-seat restaurant, and additional third-party outlets such as Starbucks.

In March, the group’s discount store chain Emart’s e-commerce operations, Emart mall, will be merged with Shinsegae’s e-commerce platform, Shinsegae mall, onto SSG.com.

“The integration of online shopping operations is to effectively absorb a rapidly growing demand for e-commerce deals under the single brand of SSG.COM,” a spokesperson from Shinsegae told Yonhap News Agency.

Shinsegae group is striving to achieve 10tr in sales by 2023, which is helped by the rising demand for delivery services in Korea.

The SSG.com platform will be fully controlled by Emart.
