South Korea retailer E-Mart has signed an agreement with Cambodian company Royal Group to open a flagship store in Phnom Pehn in 2019.
The joint venture will see both companies open a E-Mart hypermarket in the country’s capital, adding to E-mart’s operations across Asia, including in South Korea, China, Mongolia and Vietnam.
According to the Khmer Times, the 3ha site will be build in Khan Sen Sok, and will be opened by the first quarter of 2019.
Cambodia’s commerce minister Pan Sorasak told the Times that the opening of the flagship store would be a good thing for the country.
“I am confident that the cooperation will benefit the Cambodian market by bringing in expertise from the hypermarket chain and in turn create new jobs for Cambodians,” he said. “We can bring high standards to Cambodian consumers and they will have a variety of choices to choose products at competitive prices.”
