Japan could be set to begin importing Pakistani mangoes following discussions between the Japanese minister for economy, trade and industry Tashihiro Nikai and Pakistan president Asif Ali Zardari in Tokyo.
Mr Nikai told the Pakistani leader that the Japanese government would facilitate mango imports through the private sector, according to The Nation.
As part of an agreement, Pakistan is set to establish a special economic zone in Karachi for Japanese companies and investors, covering approximately 1,100ha, with inspectors set to visit the country to assess existing trade barriers.
President Zardari's visit to Tokyo, mainly to attend the upcoming Pakistan Aid Conference, is also designed to help stimulate Japanese investment in Pakistan, he told local media.
