Traders in Shanghai, China can now ship to Keelung, Taiwan within the span of 4 days with the launch of DHL's direct Less than Container Load (LCL) weekly service.

CEO of DHL Global Forwarding, North Asia Pacific, Kelvin Leung, believes this new shipping service will benefit businesses in both markets by further boosting bilateral trade - which has already reached US$10.13bn in the first four months of 2010.

"We have seen robust year-on-year growth in our LCL volumes in China," Mr Leung told Logistics Week.

Figures show a 77.3 per cent increase in volume, making the Shanghai to Taiwan trade route the third-fastest growing in the region. Since December 2008, direct air and shipping services have significantly facilitated trade between both countries.

This is the first step in DHL's evolving plans increase the cross-strait LCL services in China and the company believes their new service will be helpful for many shipping enterprises, particularly in the Yangtze Delta.
