Major Australian grower, packer and marketer the Costa Group has announced that it is set to purchase South Australia-based Adelaide Mushrooms.
Adelaide Mushrooms is a leading mushroom brand, listed in the Top 100 SA Index. Outgoing chairman Douglas Schirripa said the decision was motivated by an opportunity both “to sell our great business at its peak, but just as important, to a respected horticultural legend and an expanding group hat still has family values.”
The purchase will increase the production of the Costa Group, already the largest company of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere, to over 500 tonnes of mushrooms per week.
Harry Debney, the Costa Group chief executive officer, emphasised the exciting development the investment represented for their company.
“It provides the opportunity for Costa to not only group our business, but to also build on and enhance our reputation as Australia’s leading mushroom producer.”
