Leading Australian fresh fruit and vegetable grower-packer-marketer Costa Group has created a new international berry manager role in recognition of the international expansion of its berry business.
Peter McPherson, who has played an integral role in driving that expansion as general manager of Costa’s berry category, has been appointed to the new position of general manager – berry international.
“With our blueberry plantings in Morocco continuing to achieve a major impact in the European marketplace and further expansion under way, plus the establishment of our China operations, the creation of this new dedicated role recognises just how important these international markets will be to the future,” said Costa managing director and CEO Harry Debney.
McPherson brings more than 30 years’ experience in the Australian berry industry to the role, during which time he has worked to develop Costa’s berry business into a market leader.
“Peter’s experience and credentials in the global berry landscape are second to none and we are fortunate to have him assume responsibility and accountability for our African Blue joint venture in Morocco, the developing joint venture with Driscoll’s in China, as well as Costa’s blueberry genetics and licensing activities across the globe,” said Debney.
With McPherson moving into the new international role, David Jordan has been appointed to the position of Costa’s general manager for berry Australia.
“The separation of the berry category leadership between our domestic and international operations not only recognises the growing importance of our international operations to our business performance, but also ensures an ongoing and dedicated focus is maintained on the individual and collective growth aspirations of Costa’s berry category,” said Debney.
