As China remains Asia’s largest food import and export market, pressure to address logistics and cold chain issues is mounting.
First and last mile cold chain investments, port infrastructure access and how to improve liner shipping reliability across the region will be among the key topics at the second Cool Logistics Asia Conference, taking place in Hong Kong on 7 September during Asia Fruit Logistica, the only trade fair dedicated to the fresh produce trade across Asia.
“Perishables imports into China are one of the few segments of the Chinese market still growing at a healthy level,” says Michel Looten, Maritime Director at Seabury Cargo Advisory.
The rising middle class in China is the motor for higher expectations of produce quality and delivery processes. As a result, the perishable supply chain - including intra-Asia trade - will have to adapt and find new solutions.
Cool Logistics Asia is being staged by Cool Logistics Resources, a specialist provider of business events for the international perishable logistics and transport sector, in co-operation with Global Produce Events, organiser of Asia Fruit Logistica.
To develop the conference, the organisers are working closely with an editorial advisory board consisting in 2016 of Ole Schack Petersen, longtime reefer industry expert and formerly Head of Reefer Marketing at Maersk Line, Captain Paul Gallie, Director, Port Investments, Asia at APM Terminals, New-Zealand based cold chain expert Alex Schenz and Alfred Cheung, founder of Green Society Association.
