Continental Cargo and United Cargo are apparently to merge their operations under the name United Cargo, according to a report by IFW.

The move is thought to follow on from the merger of United Airlines and Continental in October 2010.

Under the new organisation, the joint company will operate with 159 wide-body aircraft operating over 10 hubs to 378 destinations, the report said.

The carriers will function as one by early 2012 once they have implemented the United Cargo 360° system – a new integrated cargo business management system.

According to IFW, United Cargo is scheduled to begin operating out of the group’s new hub at O’Hare International Airport in Chicago during mid-January 2012.

Meanwhile, almost 90 per cent of Continental and United Cargo operations are already co-located, with the latest locations including CVG, LAS, LGA, PDX and YYZ, the report explained.
