A Japanese Zespri Gold packhouse will be outfitted with packing and grading equipment from New Zealand company Compac, according to Radio New Zealand.
Compac signed a deal with the kiwifruit packhouse in Fukuoka province for sorting equipment and box fillers.
The company’s general manager Bob Shaw said the Japanese market had been a difficult one to get a foothold in because the industry’s loyalty to Japanese products.
The deal could open the door for other business in Japan, he said.
