Compac has begun the global rollout of its next generation internal grading system, Inspectra2.
The move comes after successful testing over the New Zealand apple season at T&G Global’s pipfuit packing facility in Nelson. An Inspectra2system was installed at the packhouse alongside an existing Spectrim external grading platform from Compac.
Equipped with advanced NIR spectroscopy technology, Inspectra2 provided a leap forward in internal grading performance, according to Morgan Rogers, head of quality and innovation pipfruit at T&G Global.
“We’ve been using Inspectra2 successfully this year with 20 per cent improvement in the cleaning of fruit and protecting the growers’ interests by ensuring that only the bad fruit is removed,” Rogers explained. “We’re able to retain the good fruit from the lines for sales.”
Inspectra2 has been created with operational usability at the forefront of its design. According to Compac, the solution’s improved user interface with streamlined modelling and calibration makes it easier to operate than its predecessor, Inspectra1.
Compac CEO Mike Riley said Inspectra2 was just one way the company, part of Tomra Food, was guaranteeing freshness for its consumers.
“We have many examples of customers recovering millions of dollars of variable produce, or creating new differentiated product lines with Inspectra1,” Riley said.
“Now, having improved the usability and performance, we are particularly excited by the ability to deploy Inspectra2 on more existing sorters to bring them up to the new standard of performance to meet customer demands.”
